In the past, if an orthodontist or dentist wanted to create a model of your mouth, they would take impressions of your teeth (upper, lower or both) and use this as a mould to create a physical model.
This old method had several drawbacks. Some patients would find the process uncomfortable and the resulting models were simply static. If a model became damaged for example it may be necessary to create a new model.
In modern times this method has been replaced by 3D imaging. This means that when Kammerman Orthodontics wish to create a model of your mouth they will use 3D scanning technology to create a detailed 3D representation of your entire mouth. The resulting 3D model can be viewed and manipulated on a computer screen.
Modern 3D models not only enable your orthodontist to fully recognise any orthodontic problems you may have. It also enables your Orthodonist to simulate changes and demonstrate them to the patient.
The 3D models are also very useful for designing and testing your braces before they are manufactured.
With many modern brace systems, the 3D model is used to create a set of braces that are perfectly designed for your mouth and will create the correct forces where required.
3D imaging is a very effective and useful tool that is used in all modern orthodontic practices.
At Kammerman Orthodontics we offer 3D imaging as part of your initial free consultation. To take advantage of this please fill out our online form or give us a call at (516) 742-4110.
