Is it more difficult to keep my teeth clean with braces?

There is no question that more effort is needed to keep your teeth clean while you have your braces in place. We highly recommend that our patients use a three step process. First use an intra oral irrigation device to dislodge any food particles from the braces. Second, use a powered tooth brush or a soft manual tooth brush with a fluoride tooth paste. It is very important that the tooth brush is contact with your braces, teeth and gums at all times. Third, a nightly fluoride rinse is very beneficial.

Of course, six month cleaning appointments to your family dentist is paramount. Some of our patients visit their family dentists three or four times a year while their braces are on.
